Gully Cleaning

At ABS, our Gully Cleaning Services operate across Berkshire, Hampshire, and Oxfordshire supporting the domestic, commercial, industrial, and utilities sectors.

What is a Gully?

A gully is a low-level drainage catchpit designed to channel water. They provide a stormwater drainage system and prevent surface water from accumulating on the street.

They consist of concrete pots placed under the road surface, with a visible iron grid.

Gullies are designed for the drainage of water and to direct rainwater away from roads, pavements, and other areas to prevent flooding. However, debris such as dirt, leaves, and rubbish can also get caught in them.  This creates a blockage that prevents the free flow of water to the main drainage system, so it is important to ensure that you contact the right people to provide gully cleaning services quickly and efficiently.

It is important to engage with gully cleaning services to ensure that gullies are clean and emptied regularly to prevent such debris from accumulating in drains, limiting their water capacity which can lead to areas becoming flooded.

What is Gully Cleaning?

Gully cleaning is the process of cleaning and maintaining drainage gullies which if left untreated can cause flooding and damage to properties, roads, pavements etc.

The frequency of gully cleaning is dependent upon the level of usage and location. For example, if you are in an area with high traffic with heavy rainfall, more frequent gully cleaning may be required.

Our gully cleaning process involves 10 key stages:

  • Survey and Inspection
  • Traffic Management (if required)
  • Preparation of equipment
  • Suction and Jetting
  • Debris Removal
  • Rinsing and Flushing
  • Inspection and Maintenance

Signs of a Gully Blockage

There are a few things that you should look out for, or a few things you may have noticed already which may mean that gully cleaning is required.

Unpleasant Odours

These can be coming from your gullies or drains.

Overflowing Water

You may notice this more during heavy rainfall.

Debris Build-Up

Any debris around or in your gully can cause it to stop the flow of water.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to call the experts to assess the situation and remove any blockages to prevent further issues.
